MONTESSORI ORIENTATION PROGRAM

At the beginning of every academic year we have a Montessori orientation program for all the parents. Most of the parents are not aware of how the Montessori system works and what are the uses of the many Montessori materials that are used in the environment. During this session the parents are taken through the process of how the Montessori system functions and how the children learn in the environment.

FRUIT SALAD PARTY

When the theme fruits are introduced we have a fruit salad party. All the different fruits are brought to the class and the children of level 3 are taught how to peel and cut the fruits and how to prepare fruit salad with the help of the teachers. Then the fruit salad is served to all the children and they have a wonderful time eating the yummy yummy fruit salad.

PHONTICS ORIENTATION PROGRAM

Most of the parents are not aware of phonetics and are not aware of the sound of the alphabets. As a result there is a lot of confusion when the parents teach their children. In the phonetic session we teach the parents the sound of the alphabets and take a phonetic class for them they are taught the sound of the letters and how to pronounce them. This helps the parents to help their children better.

COMMUNITY DAY

When we introduce the theme community helpers we ask the children to come dressed a community helper. It’s wonderful to see the little ones dressed in wonderful attires as the future citizens of the community. Most of them choose to dress as what they would like to be when they grow up.

SHOW AND TELL

Every month or sometimes twice in a month we have an event called show and tell. This depends on the theme of the week. For example if the theme is insects then the children have to bring a live insect or a model of the same and talk a few sentences about it. This helps the children improve their vocabulary and also prepares them for public speaking.

COLOUR DAY

Whenever a new colour is introduced all the children are asked to come dressed in that particular colour. This creates a colour awareness and children realize that one colour can exist in different shades. The children are also asked to bring any object of that colour and talk about it. For example on blue colour day one child brought an Asoka chakra and on red colour day one child brought a miniature LG gas cylinder.

RHYMES DAY

All the parents are invited on this day to come and sing along with their children. The parents come and sit in a circle along with their children and the teachers, children and parents have an hour long singing session singing songs and rhymes with actions and expressions, after which each parent comes forward with their child the parent and child sing together.

FIELD TRIPS

Different levels of children are taken to different places for educational field trips. The places the children are taken to is the park, the post office, the market place or the zoo.

PICNIC

Towards the end of the academic year the children are taken for a fun filled outing to a resort where a lot of amusement rides are and a lot of games are organized for them to enjoy and have fun.

CRAFT CARNIVAL

Through out the year the children do a lot of lovely art and craft activities. Here the creativity of the teachers is very much evident. During the craft carnival all this creativity is put up for display. Parent involvement is also very essential for this event as each child is given a theme on which the child and parent have to work together and create a project or model on that theme.

ETHNIC DAY

Ethnic day is when the children come dressed in the costume to which state they belong. They also have to sing a song or say a few words of welcome in their mother tongue. In this event the children are exposed to the different cultures and languages that are present in India.

MONTESSORI GRADUATION DAY

At the end of the academic year the children of level 3 graduate to standard 1. They have a wonderful graduation ceremony where the little ones come in graduation caps and receive their certificates. A beautiful cultural show – song and dance follows this graduation ceremony.

Our physical instruction teacher made a kite on the previous day and showed the children how to make them. On Nov 3rd the children turned up with kites without a tail and some even without a thread. Still we enjoyed this event though those who flew the kite had several problems because some were flying and some were not. The thread broke, one got estranged on the pole and the children laughed and laughed. It was a new experience for us.

TRIP TO OOTY

We started for our trip to ooty on 22nd Oct at 10.00 pm. Children and teachers were so excited that they assembled in the school by 8.00 pm itself . After getting into the bus they were having so much fun that it was difficult to make them sleep. Near the Bandipur forest they wanted to get out of the bus to observe the animals but they were not allowed to do that. On reaching ooty we were so hungry that we would have eaten a horse. The children were so excited that they were ready and out within half an hour and the jokes we had with class V girls cannot be repeated. The first place we visited was the Pykara Lake. Walking was very difficult for me and Preetham. We went for a boat ride which was very enjoyable. In the evening we went to the Botanical gardens. The teachers were playing truant with the children. Later the children and teachers had long hours of shopping buying all nonsense. At night they were in no mood to sleep and we had to force them to do so. On 26th morning we had our breakfast and started our journey. The first stop was Sim’s garden where Shantha Madam had a great adventure?? ? ? . Finally we reached Black Thunder and I am happy to say that I could not recognize who were having more fun my teachers or my students. We spent about 6 hours there , had dinner and started back home. The journey back was gloomy as no one wanted the fun to end. It was a memorable trip for the children and the staff.
